How do you cope with the pressure of the hysteria that your appearance causes to young girls after the success Twilight?
The way everyone gets through when being under pressure: I focus on my friends. Look, I shouldn't be ungrateful, besides the stress it's fun to get all this recognition. It's just that some things change in your life. I can't walk down the street alone, as i used to do and there are moments that in this recognition i feel extremely vulnerable.I try to keep my mind,to distinguish the jobs offered that will help me succeed and stay calm with madness and speed that all this is happening.

They've been so many vampire movies... I believe after your trilogy the amount will increase.Do you feel there's something special you've added through your performance to the cinema persona of the "immortals"?
The idea was to bring back for the cinema and the new generation the vampire legend. So, I tried something, that was to play the vampire without following a specific road on how such a role should be played, but focusing on the after adolescent loneliness of a special character.

Well, in the book Edward's presence is relatively smaller that in the movie...
In the book Bella hears Edward's voice in her mind. In the movie we gave this voice the figure of a vision.And we added a battle scene at the end,which i really enjoyed 'cause i look amazing as a fighter(laughs..).

Have you ever felt that in the center of the Twilight success hides a well concealed conservatism about the sexual relationship of Bella and Edward?
Everyone could translate the story as they wish. Personally, I feel that this sexual abstinence works in the complete opposite way. It creates a sexual tension that makes fans scream: they have to have sex, they have to have sex.
Would you appear naked like Daniel Radcliffe did in a movie or a play?
The question is no longer if i "would" cause Little Ashes already contains such scenes .

Got me! I would ask that. from a sexually conservative vampire to Salvador Dali and whatever this means...it must have been a long run.

How did you feel through this distance?
At the beginning i totally freaked out. The truth is that the Spanish have a completely different opinion about nudity than English ones. I think of different answers i could give like l a had my reproductive organs expanded(giggles). The truth is I did not really know what I freaked out a bit.

At the age of 23 with all this fuss around your name,I believe it is totally normal to freak out about almost everything.
I freak out mostly by all the gossip and rumors I read on the net.You can not even imagine.Someone wrote that during the filming of "New Moon" I didn't smell nice cause I didn't shower.

I am not sure what you did back there but I am sure that today you got the time to take a shower as you seem and smell great.
(Giggles) The funny think is that filming had not even begun when this thing started circulating the net.

You portrayed Dali and Kristen will play Joan Jett. Did both your involvement in a science fiction romance influenced you in choosing roles of real people to continue on with your career?
The is this procedure in acting that is really interesting when portraying a non fiction character. You study pictures, focus on the body language. I remember a picture of Salvatore Dali pointing at something, I spent hours trying to figure out what he was pointing at and why was he doing it that way.

Is there another famous personality you would want to play?
Van Morrison,but I do not think they would ever give me the part.

Have you ever got to the point to compare your passion for cinema with your other great passion for music?
No. For starters I can not live without music, furthermore I always said that even though acting is one of my biggest passions, plan number 2 for me was to become famous via music.When I was younger I wanted to become a politician but I think it is too late now for me.

Now that you are famous does it bother you that girls might want to be with you just because of fame?
If they are pretty it doesn't matter(giggles). Even thought I am completely sure that anyone who talks to me for 5-10 min stops having any interest in me. Anyway now I do not have a girlfriend and I can not figure out why? Aren't you supposed to be luckier in this field when you are famous?

"Eu ajo assim sempre que conheço uma menina! Assim que começo a gostar de alguém, eu começo a me questionar ao ponto de beirar o ridículo. Ao ponto em que elas acabam me dispensando. E elas me odeiam".

Você acha fácil conhecer mulheres?
Eu costumava achar, mas não tenho conversado com nenhuma há um bom tempo. Eu fico com medo porque sou fotografado o tempo todo. Atualmente, basta que eu converse com uma menina para ela virar minha "namorada".

Você é a sensação do momento em Hollywood. Isso deve lhe dar algumas fãs bem fanáticas.
A coisa mais esquisita é quando as pessoas ficam esperando fora do seu hotel. Não dá pra ignorar isso. Eu estava andando pela rua com os fones no ouvido outro dia e percebi que havia seis pessoas atrás de mim. Eu deixei os fones no ouvido e continuei andando.

É bem "rock and roll", não?
Eu quase não saio mais de cada. É difícil manter sua imagem porque, como todo mundo lhe fotografando, cedo ou tarde as pessoas vão pensar "Ah, na verdade ele é um idiota". (risos).

Você é um ator britânico que faz muito sucesso nos Estados Unidos - nós perdemos você?
Não! Eu gosto dos Estados Unidos e gosto de muitas coisas em LA, mesmo que você tenha que dirigir onde quer que você vá e eu seja um péssimo motorista! Mas, mesmo assim, não tenho passado muito tempo lá ultimamente, ainda sinto como se eu morasse em Londres. Quando eu voltei para o Natal, tudo estava do mesmo jeito. Eu ainda tenho um quarto na casa dos meus pais.

Tem algum poster constrangedor na parede do seu quarto na casa dos seus pais?
Eu tinha posters de Linda Blair e Kate Moss! (risos)

Você acha que essa subida rápida ao sucesso mudou você?
Não sei. Eu prefiro pensar que não mudei muito. Eu ainda estou esperando que minha mente se acostume, se adapte a tudo isso, mas, dentro de mim, eu não acho que mudei coisa alguma.

O que você estaria fazendo se não fosse ator?
Eu virei ator por acaso - eu não queria atuar. Eu queria ser um músico e tocar piano em bares. Eu queria ir para Nice e tocar na praia usando um smoking. Eu achava isso legal. Mas, faz um tempo que não componho nada.

Interpretando um vampiro, você deve ter pensado sobre imortalidade. Você pagaria algum preço para viver para sempre?
Depende. Se você tem algo a que se prender, sim. Mas, agora, eu penso... na. Se alguém me falasse "você vai morrer em breve", eu pensaria "ao menos eu não preciso mais fazer exercícios".

E você, como enxerga isso?
Eu busco o melhor naquilo em que me identifico. Edward é um personagem muito humano. Sou muito parecido com ele em muitos sentidos. Ele tem muitas dúvidas acerca de si mesmo. É do tipo que quer fazer a coisa certa. Um tipo normal. Ou seja, que comete erros. E é engraçado como as fãs o vêem como o tipo perfeito. Mas, ele não é. Ele é ciumento, mas tenta ser uma boa pessoa, seguindo seu coração.

Por que preferiu ser ator a músico? Ou você acha que pode fazer as duas coisas o mesmo tempo?
Acredito que em muitos aspectos dá para fazer as duas coisas ao mesmo tempo, mas é muito difícil seguir com seriedade duas carreiras. Na verdade, nunca tive interesse em ganhar dinheiro com música. Eu faço música mais por razões terapêuticas. Mas, acredito que a música ajuda com a atuação no que diz respeito ao timing. Você fica menos tímido. É como você está diantes de muitas pessoas, como se existisse uma barreira. Você se sente como se estivesse nu. Eu acho que ajuda.

Robert nos conta que está compondo músicas para um filme.
Sim, eu sou compositor. Estou compondo algumas músicas para um filme, mas é só a música. Eu não atuarei nele.

Você comporia uma música para um dos filmes de Crepúsculo?
A música que estou compondo é para um filme que talvez nem seja feito.

Qual instrumento musical você mais gosta de tocar? Qual você escolhe quando está compondo uma música nova?
Eu toco bastante violão porque não dá para levar um piano para todos os lugares (gesticula os movimentos e ri). Eu gosto do que sinto na hora, eu amo esse setimento. Mas, eu tocava piano antes de tocar violão. Estou começando a tocar bastante outra vez. É sempre bom tocar outra vez. Eu amo Van Morrison e todas aquelas músicas dos anos 70.

Você viaja por todo o mundo, isso deve tirar de você um tempo para fazer aquilo que gosta. Isso lhe incomoda muito? O quanto você está disposto a suportar?
Eu não me importo com o aspecto comercial. Devo dizer que, se eu pudesse fazer as mesmas coisas que estou fazendo nesse momento sem que ninguém me conhecesse, eu amaria. Quando você é muito famoso, você não consegue mais levar a vida novamente e isso é assustador. Talvez você não consiga mais se acostumar com coisas normais outra vez. Você não pode entrar num prédio, não pode mais sentar para tomar café e encontrar inspiração para fazer as coisas. Eu não cosigo me acostumas com as pessoas me pedindo autógrafos. Isso não é interessante, é perturbador. E é muito assustador pensar que você perdeu toda vida normal que tinha. Eu ainda sou novo nisso, mas sabe de uma coisa? As fãs amam o Edward, não a mim.

Eu li em algum lugar que você ama Jack Nicholson e que ele é um modelo para vocês.
É, de uma esquisita. Tem a ver com as decisões que ele fez na carreira dele. É estranho, mas não acho que exista um outro ator tão coerente quanto ele. E com a mesma qualidade de atuação.

Há algum ator novo de quem você goste?
Romain Duris. E Val Kilmer.

Você é a pessoa mais comentada na internet, você lê o que as pessoas falam de você?
Eu li por alguns meses, mas parei de fazer isso.

Por que?

Qual foi a diferença entre filmar Lua Nova e Crepúsculo?
RP: Muito grande. No primeiro filme, havia muita gente com opiniões muito diferentes. O estúdio queria criar uma base para uma sequência de filmes porque já havia sido confirmado que seria uma trilogia. Os chefes achavam que o filme tinha que ter um apelo junto ao maior número possível de pessoas. A diretora, Catherine Hardwicke, havia feito vários filmes independentes e às vezes parecia um míssel desgovernado, ela tinha muita energia. Kristen e eu tínhamos nossas próprias idéias sobre nossos personagens e nós dois somos bem teimosos.
Mas, o mega sucesso do primeiro filme deixou todo mundo mais calmo. Nós estamos menos inseguros. Os chefes do estúdio sabem que tomaremos as decisões certas. Nós também temos o Chris Weitz como novo diretor. Ele é bem calmo e deixou todo mundo pronto muito rápido. Nós todos trabalhamos muito.

Você já assistiu Lua Nova algumas vezes?

Quando estávamos filmando Lua Nova em Vancouver, ficavam esperando por três dias seguidos, chovesse ou fizesse sol. Nessas situações, seu instinto lhe diz "essa pessoa é louca" e sua imaginação corre desenfreada. Mas, na maioria das vezes não é tão ruim assim quando você você vai falar com a pessoa.

Em Lua Nova, o jovem Taylor Lautner interpreta um lobo, Jacob. O que você pensou quando viu os músculos dele?
RP: Que eu precisava ir à academia imediatamente (risos). Não, eu acho que está tudo bem. É engraçado: por alguma razão, quando você está atuando num filme adolescente, eles esperam que você tenha um tanquinho. Então, quando eu vejo um cara que se enquadra em todas as expectativas de uma adolescente, eu fico um pouco complexado, sim. Na verdade, isso foi ótimo para entrar no meu personagem. RP: Tem sido um ano estranho. Eu tenho trabalho sem parar, com no máximo 4 dias de folga. Primeiro teve Lua Nova, depois Eclipse. Eu fiquei realmente aliviado quando terminamos de gravar no final de outubro. Eu finalmente pude dormir. Mas, nós não tivemos muito descanso por causa da turnê promocional de Lua Nova. Em fevereiro, irei para Budapeste (Hungria) para as gravações de Bel Ami. Não com a Nicole Kidman, como foi dito. Ainda não tenho permissão para dizer com quem irei gravar. Eu também assinei contratato para gravar Unbound Captives, um drama romântico com a Rachel Weisz. Mas, as chances são de que, antes de tudo isso, eu deva gravar o quarto filme de Crepúsculo.

Megan Fox é a mulher mais bonita do mundo e ela disse que o "título" a deixou tímida. O que você acha do fato de algumas revistas lhe considerarem o homem mais sexy do planeta?
RP: Deus, eu nem me vejo como um homem de verdade ainda (risos).

Edward has a much smaller role in New Moon. How much was this changed for the movie?
It didn’t change that much. Or maybe it did. There’s a sort of new image of me that Bella sees, or creates. You’d think she went mad. She thinks she has visions. I’m not really that much in those scenes. Those scenes are mixed with memories of her, and fantasies.

The tension for preserving the virginity is a very important subject in the saga.
In many ways it is. I think this was done because Stephenie loves that kind of tension; having an unfullfilled desire the whole time, that’s the best kind of love. Makes everything more dramatic, romantic, tragic. People can see it in many different ways.

But how do you see it?
I always try to find the best in everything. Edward is a very human character, and I’m like him in many ways. He doubts himself a lot. But he wants to do the right thing. He’s a normal guy, he makes mistakes. And it’s funny how fans see him as a perfect guy. He’s not; he’s a jealous person. But he does try to be a good person while following his heart.

Why did you prefer to be an actor and not a musician? Or do you think you can be a musician as well?
I think in many ways you can do both, but it’s very hard to follow both careers seriously. And to be honest, I wasn’t very interested in making money with music. I make music for therapeutic reasons. But music can help acting, timing wise. You become less shy. It’s like when you’re with people, there’s a barrier. You feel naked. I think that helps.

Robert shares with us that he’s writing music for a movie.
“Yes I wrote music. I’m writing music for a movie, but it’s just the music. I won’t be singing in it”.

Will you ever write music for any of the Twilight films?
The music I’m writing is for a movie that it might never get made.

What’s your favorite instrument to play? What is your instrument of choice when you’re composing new music?
I play the guitar a lot because you cn’t take a piano everyhere (mimics the movements and laughs). I like the feeling that I get, I love it. But I played the piano before I played the guitar. I’m starting to play a lot again. It’s always nice to play again. I love Van Morrison and all that 70’s music.

You travel all over the world, that must take time for you to do the things you like to do. Does it bother you much, or how much are you willing to take?
I don’t mind the commercial aspect. I must say, if I could do the same things I’m doing right now without having anyone know who I am, I’d love it. When you’re very famous, you can’t lead a normal life anymore and that’s scary. You might not be able to relate to normal things again. You can’t walk into a building, you can’t sit down for coffee anymore and find inspiration to do things. People asking for my autograph, I can’t relate to that. That’s not interesting; it’s annoying. And it’s very scary to think that you’ve lost any normal life you had. I’m still new at this, but you know what? The fans love Edward, not me.

I read somewhere that you love Jack Nicholson and that he’s you role model.
Yes, in a weird way. It has to do with the decisions he made in his career. It’s strange, but I don’t think there’s another actor as coherent as he is. And with the same quality of work.

Is there any younger actors that you like?
Romain Duris. And Val Kilmer.

You’re the most talked about person on the internet, do you read what people say about you?
I did it for a few months, but I’m done with that.

Why?
It’s easy to become obsessed with it. ‘I have to change’. When everything starts, that’s what you think ‘I have to change’. Why? It’s so stupid. A bad article can really get to you. And if you keep looking…

Did you travel with friends? Did you bring anyone to Cannes?
No, I’m here by myself.

Where do you live right now?
Nowhere. I’ve been working for the past year and half. I have no home, or anything.

Do you feel like establishing somewhere? Buying a house, maybe in LA?
It doesn’t make sense, I don’t go there very often. I’m maybe there one week at a time, stay in hotels. But it would be nice to have a place wher I can out down all my things.

A place to call your home? Or just a place where you can leave all your things?
I have a lot of books, but I don’t care very much for other posessions. I only have suitcases in my hotel rooms.

It’s been since Leonardo DiCaprio that an actor has been so intensely worshipped as Robert Pattinson. Thousands of girls (an older women) everywhere would love to have Edward bite them – Robert Pattinson in real life, R-Pattz for his fans.

How do you deal with all the media-craziness? There are books about your life-story, and you aren’t even dead yet.
RP: Yes, I saw that there are 7 unauthorized biographies, and they all start at my 20th. I think Im dealing with it as good as possible. The past year, I have been working non-stop so the biggest Twilight craziness passed me by. My life and Twilight, it are 2 separate things.
Being famous is a lifestyle, but Im only a foetus in that celebrity-world. Im better at it than in the beginning, but I would hate it if there would be people hanging around my house for the rest of my life. It would drive me crazy. Why do people want a picture of me and them at all costs? I don’t get that. I think of myself as boring.

How different was shooting New Moon in comparison with the first part?
RP: Very different. With the first movie, there were a lot of people all pulling in a different direction. The studio wanted to create a basis for a franchise, because it had already been settled that it would be a trilogy. The bosses thought the movie had to appeal to as much people as possible. Director Catherine Hardwicke had made a lot of independent movies and she sometimes was like an unguided projectile, she had so much energy. Kristen and I had our own ideas about the characters and we both are rather stubborn.
But the mega success of the first movie has made everyone more calm. We are less insecure. The studio bosses know that we are going to make the right decisions. We also have Chris Weitz as the new director. He’s very calm and got everyone ready very fast. We have all worked so hard.

Have you seen New Moon a few times yet?
RP: Once. I still think it’s a torture to see myself on the big screen. But this time it wasn’t a punishment. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it. That hadn’t happened since the beginning of my career.

Don’t you think it’s frightening to see how obsessed some fans are?
RP: Definitely. When the Twilight hype broke out, I sometimes had visions of my getting stabbed by a crazy fan. Those crowds at premieres… Im not at ease. When we were shooting New Moon in Vancouver, some fans would be out there for 3 days in a row, good or bad weather. At times like that, your instinct tells you: that is a weirdo and your imagination runs wild. But mostly it’s not so bad when you go and talk to that person.
Twilight is just my job, but for a fan, it’s something they desperately want to be a part of. Is that wrong? Im not so sure anymore. A fan is a fan, that’s all. It just takes a while before you get used to the fact that what you do, gets appreciated by people.

Have you ever been a fan of someone?
RP: When I first saw ‘One flew over the cuckoo’s nest’, I was 16 and that movie has influenced me so much. I even started to dress like Jack Nicholson. That period lasted for a long time. I also had a thing for Patricia Arquette. But I don’t think that any of that has influenced my work. (laugh)

In New Moon, the young Taylor Lautner plays a wolf, Jacob. What did you think when you saw his muscles?
RP: That I needed to hit the gym stat. (laugh) No, I think it’s ok. It’s funny: for some reason, when you’re an actor in a teen movie, they expect you to have a six pack. So when I see a guy that meets every expectation of a teenage girl, I do get a complex yeah. Actually, that was perfect to get into my role. I now know the feeling of having to prove myself against someone younger than me.

You have a great connection with Kristen, that isn’t a secret. But in this movie, there’s also a lot of chemistry between her and Taylor. Were you jealous?
RP: No. In New Moon, we only have like 3 scenes with the three of us. I barely had the chance to be jealous. When I had to work, Taylor wasn’t around because Bella and Jacobs story line was developing without me. In Eclipse, the third movie, which we wrapped a while ago, it’s totally different. There’s a lot more interaction between the characters. Taylor and I were teasing each other the whole time.

This time, Taylor is the leading man. Does that take some pressure off your shoulders?
RP: Asolutely. I keep on saying this is Taylors movie. Im not the lead role. He’s fully responsible and that’s a win-win situation. If it’s a flop, I can always say that it’s because Im in it less. (laugh)

What’s next on your agenda?
RP: It has been a weird year. I have been working non-stop, with 4 days off at the most. First there was New Moon, then Eclipse. I was pretty relieved when we could wrap at the end of October. I finally got to sleep in. But we didn’t get much rest, with the promo tour for New Moon coming up. In February I will go to Budapest to shoot Bel Ami. Not with Nicole Kidman, as reported first. Im not allowed to say who it is yet. Ive also signed on for Unbound Captives, a romantic drama with Rachel Weisz. But chances are that before all that, I'm expected on the set of the forth Twilight movie.

Megan Fox is the most beautiful woman in the world and she said that title has made her shy. What do you think of the fact that some magazines call you the most sexy man on the planet?
RP: God, I don’t even think I’m a real man yet (laugh)
